Electrical Surge Protection
Surges are sudden and unexpected spikes in voltage that travel throughout your home or office electrical system. Some surges come from within your own home or office, such as turning on a vacuum cleaner or turning on a hair dryer. Other surges come from the incoming power lines. Many of these come from damages dealt to the system such as; power pole breakages, lines being crossed in high winds, lightning strikes and electric utility switching.  Surges can also affect your home and office through cable televisions and telephone wiring.

These surges can destroy expensive electronics. The average home now has more than $20,000 worth of electronics in it that are vulnerable. Televisions, stereos, phone systems, alarm clocks, stoves, ovens, computers, printers, routers, dvd-dvr players and even refrigerators. You should have a whole house surge protection system to provide financial protection from these surges. The inexpensive power strip-type protectors provide little to no protection. Extend the life of your valuable electronics and safeguard your home from an electrical surge. Give us a call today and receive your free in home no obligation estimate. You and your family deserve to be protected.

My lights dim when when the A/C turns on?

  • Dimming lights is a sign that a problem is occurring. If they only dim when the A/C is on you should us come out and check your air conditioning system and electrical system. This could be caused by a system that is overcharged with Freon, has loose connections or is being fed by low voltage power.

  • Occasionally the power feeding into the home is the culprit. If it is really hot, the voltage drops coming into the home and can cause this. This can also lead to burning wires, blown fuses and tripped circuit breakers.

How do I find a short circuit?

  • Short circuit tracing requires specialized tools and knowledge. We can trace the broken circuit using tone locators to identify where the problems lies.

  • This is basically a process of elimination. We will open outlet after outlet up until we find the source of the problem. This includes checking out the circuit breaker and the main panel.

What is an arc fault circuit breaker?

Problems in home wiring, like arcing and sparking, cause more than 40,000 home fires each year. These fires claim over 350 lives and injure 1,400 victims each year. An electrical safety device for homes, called an arc fault circuit interrupter or AFCI, is designed provide enhanced protection from fires resulting from these unsafe home wiring conditions.

GFCI and AFCI are not the same. Arc fault breakers sense a short circuit in a device plugged into them. They also sense a short in the cord when it arcs from the power wire. These are now required in bedrooms.
